New Flights and Airline Combinations: Alternative Airlines Launches the First Phase of Its Virtual Interlining Roadmap
07/09/21 — Alternative Airlines, the global flight search and booking site, has launched the first phase of its Virtual Interlining roadmap — making it even easier for customers to book flight connections and transfers with multiple carriers on a single itinerary. It’s the latest step in Alternative Airlines’ mission to provide a complete flight booking solution for any traveller wanting to easily and conveniently book their flights online, no matter how complex their itinerary.
Alternative Airlines will initially launch Virtual Interlining (VI) with a focus on North America — a major market behind the site’s incredible recent success. With over 90% of Alternative Airlines’ total flight bookings currently made within the US, the site is set to grow even further by providing greater airline connectivity.
Virtual Interlining is the behind-the-scenes technology that will bring even more options for passengers to book connections with multiple carriers — even when these carriers do not share an alliance. The service is being developed by Alternative Airlines’ innovative in-house tech team of developers and designers, in partnership with Amadeus.
Since re-launching its flight booking platform in 2017, Alternative Airlines has been using its own algorithms to connect multiple airlines. By advancing its Virtual Interlining technology, the site will continue to offer even more airline mix-and-match capability. For example, within North America there will now be even more options to book an outbound flight on one airline and a returning flight on another airline, all under the same booking.
Tobias Lenz, Product Lead and manager of Alternative Airlines' long-term Virtual Interlining project: “To get the best fares, travellers will often spend a lot of time building their own combination of flights. This can be a difficult and time-consuming process of identifying all the possible airline options and then comparing fares. But through Virtual Interlining, we can provide this service instantaneously, by automatically generating the best airline options based on a customer’s departure and arrival airports or cities. By combining carriers we're able to create new routes where no single carrier is currently offering flights. As well as saving our customers their time, this will also maximise the possibility of finding cheaper prices.”
Speaking of the announcement, Sam Argyle, Managing Director at Alternative Airlines commented: “It’s important to us to continue to bring more dynamic and diverse airline content to our customers. The launch of our Virtual Interlining project is perfectly timed as we continue to focus on expanding our reach within the US market.. Our aim is for alternativeairlines.com to become the single-platform solution for anyone wanting to easily curate and manage their flight itineraries. And through Virtual Interlining, we’re able to bring even more flight choice to our customers.”
As well as offering a greater number of 600+ airlines and airline connections, when booking flights through Alternative Airlines customers can choose from over 40 ways to pay, including ‘buy now, pay later’ payment instalment options. Whether booking a single flight or connecting flights with multiple airlines, travellers can manage all their flight bookings in one place, as well as customise their bookings to meet their needs — including easier seat selection, ticket or cabin class upgrades, and adding additional services such as Cancellation Protection and Lost Baggage Protection.
