Ecuatoriana Airlines is a new brand and is the revival of a former national carrier of Ecuador (Ecuatoriana de Aviación) that ceased operations in 2006. In August 2020, Ecuatoriana Airlines obtained its operating permit from the National Civil Aviation Council of Ecuador (CNAC). Expected to begin scheduled passenger flights in the 4th quarter of 2021, the airline will be based at Quito Internacional (UIO), and operate a domestic network within Ecuador.
Ecuatoriana de Aviación was the largest airline operating in Ecuador, before ceasing operations in 2006. When it operated, the airline flew from Quito and Guayaquil to major cities in the U.S., including Miami, Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago. It also connected Ecuador with neighboring countries in South America, including Mexico, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Chile, and Argentina, as well as the Bahamas in the Caribbean.
Ecuatoriana Airlines has already selected the Boeing 717-200 aircraft with a capacity of 115 passengers in a three-class configuration. The airline will also be using the Dash 8-Q400 turboprop on its local domestic as well as some transborder international routes.

Avianca and LATAM are currently the largest two airlines operating within the country. Before the COVID-19 pandemic caused unprecedented disruption, the Ecuadorian government had a national carrier, TAME Airlines, which unfortunately went into liquidation - although the government did state that other private airlines would take over all of the routes previously operated by TAME.

Ecuatoriana Airlines has outlined a plan to connect Ecuador's domestic market, by reopening destinations and routes that were previously operated by TAME, and Ecuatoriana de Aviación before that, as well as establishing new routes. Hub Airport
Mariscal Sucre International Airport
The airline is based at Quito International Airport, called Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO). It is the busiest airport in Ecuador and is the primary airport serving the city of Quito. The airport is the largest hub for Ecuadorian carrier Avianca Ecuador and LATAM Ecuador. Other airlines that fly to the airport include Aeroméxico, American Airlines, Air Europa, Wingo, United Airlines, KLM, and Copa Airlines.
Fleet
By the end of 2020, the airline was reviewing aircraft types, which included the following aircraft as possibilities: Beechcraft B1900C, ATR 42-500, Dash 8-Q200, Airbus A220-100, Airbus A319, and a Boeing 737. The airline in May 2021 confirmed that they will be using the Boeing 717-200 (capacity of 115 passengers in a three-class configuration) and the Dash8-Q400 turboprop (capacity of 78 passengers in a dual-class configuration) for its domestic routes.
