About MeerExpress

MeerExpress was a German airline that offered scheduled passenger flights. The airline was based at Ruhr Area Airfield and offered flights connecting mainland Germany and the German Noth Sea Islands. The airline flew between three destinations, offering flights from Ruhr Area to Norderney and Juist and back.

The airline flew during the holiday season, operating from March to November. It offered flights on each day of the week, except for Tuesday, with an increased frequency over public holiday periods.

MeerExpress was founded in 2020. It was created to reduce the time it takes to travel between the Ruhr area and the North Sea Islands of Germany. Before MeerExpress offered flights between the islands, the only way to travel between the two destinations was by car and ferry, which would usually take several hours. With flights from MeerExpress, passengers could travel between these destinations in under one hour. Many locals take vacations in the North Sea Islands and — with MeerExpress — they could spend more time enjoying their well-deserved breaks and less time travelling.

On top of its regularly scheduled passenger flights, MeerExpress also offered special flights to its passengers, including sightseeing flights, charter flights to other islands and flights for special occasions, such as birthdays, weddings, bachelor/bachelorette parties, anniversaries, honeymoons and more.

The airline also offered free parking at the Ruhr Area Airport for every person with a MeerExpress flight ticket.

Check-In Information

Online

Online check-in wasn't available with MeerExpress.

Airport

To check-in for flights on this airline, passengers would have to check-in at the airport. Passengers had to have their travel documents ready to present to the airline check-in agent in order to complete check-in.

As a general rule, it's important to arrive at the airport at least one hour before the flight departs, as arriving late could result in a passenger being refused boarding.

Hub Airport

Ruh Area Airfield

Ruh Area Airfield, also known as Schwarze Heide Airport, is a small local airfield in the Ruhr Area and was the hub airport for MeerExpress. MeerExpress flew all of its flights out of the airfield, connecting it with Norderney, Juist and other destinations in the North Sea Islands upon request. The airline had been based at this airfield for as long as it had flown.

The airfield itself is very small, with one single landing/take-off strip. MeerExpress was the only airline based at the airport.
